Moving items from the attic

Attic spaces are usually areas of a home that is often overlooked when homeowners are packing and preparing for movers.   We recommend that you bring the items down when you initially begin your packing.   This will allow you to look through everything and sell all unwanted items.

Some movers will not go up in the attic if the access point is a pull down ladder.  Our employees will not only go up into spaces like that but they will move items back into the attic at your new house if that is where you want your storage to go.

Keep in mind that you are charged by the hour for local moves and having your attic storage packed and down from the rafters will save you money in the long run.

No Hourly Minimums

We get many calls from people who need help moving furniture from upstairs to downstairs or from their living room to the garage.  Sometimes they need to refinish their hardwood floors or they need to paint a room inside their  home.

Homeowners will tend to try to move their furniture themselves and this is when accidents happen and backs begin to ache.  We make it affordable for our customers to get these tasks done by making a simple phone call.

Our local moves are charged by the hour and if it only takes 1 hour to complete the job then that is all you get charged for at the hourly rate.  We feel that once you meet our staff and see what they can do,  you will refer us to someone you know who will need our services.

Best of Charlotte

The moving industry has been plagued over the years with rogue companies moving households without the proper licensing and permits.  Sometimes holding furniture “hostage” in order to collect more money above the estimate.  There have been many stories on TV and in the newspapers d a horror stories describing related to moving household goods.

At T-N-T we understand this anxiety and strive to change the perception of our industry one move at a time.  Hiring extremely qualified employees is one way we have met this goal.

It is with a great sense of accomplishment and pride that we can announce our “Best of Charlotte” award for 2010.

Moving Insurance

When hiring a mover you should know and understand what you are covered for in the case of an accident.  All moving companies licensed in the state of North Carolina must offer the customer the limited valuation of 60 cents per pound per article.  This means that if your dressor gets scratched and it weighs 100 pounds, you will receive $60 towards the repair.  It is limited because if your flat screen TV falls and breaks and it weighs 100 pounds, you will receive $60 towards a new one.  The $60 will cover the repair of the scratch but not a new tv.

It is important that you check with your homeowner’s or renter’s policy to see if you are already covered.  If not, some insurance companies will allow you to purchase moving insurance through them.

Moving companies do offer depreciated value and full value insurance (“valuation”) at a premium.  Be sure to discuss this with your sales rep before the move starts.

Storing household goods

In some cases storing houshold goods is the only option available.  When your home sells much quicker than you expect it may catch you offguard.  Searching for your new home takes time and I do not recommend that you pick one just because you have nowhere to go.  You will come to understand that moving your furniture into storage and renting a home or apartment can save you thousands in the long run.

When the housing market was strong this delemma happened more frequently when people were selling their home hoping the closing date would be the same as the house they were building.

T-N-T Movers has a climate controlled warehouse to store your belongings but if you only need a few days of storage then we usually keep everything on the truck which will save you money.

Using public storage facilities is another option if you need 24hour access and we work with certain storage compnies in Charlotte and can help you find one that fits your needs.

Call us today at 704-523-1455 if you any questions about storage.  We will be happy to help out in any way possible

Moving is Stressful

Moving:  One of Life’s Most Stressful Moments

Moving is frequently cited as one of the most stressful life events, after the death of a loved one, divorce or illness. According to a report from the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry

(Facts for Families: Children and Family Moves, 1999), moving to a new community is “one of the most stress-producing events a family faces.” While the reasons for moving can be positive – such as the purchase of a house or a job promotion – settling into a new home, connecting to a new environment and recreating a home are almost always chaotic and stressful.

At T-N-T we recognize this and work very hard to minimize the effects of stress caused by moving your home.  Our employees enjoy their work and it shows through with their delightful attitude that tends to be contagious to the homeowner.  As co-owner of  T-N-T Movers, I am involved not just with the estimates and booking the move but sometimes I am out in the field with my guys to see first hand how they perform.

What I see is the homeowner connecting with the movers in a way that makes them forget just how stressful the day can be.  This quality is what separates our moving company from the competition.

Local Moves

What to Expect on a Local Move

It has been said that the quality of your move is dependent soley on who shows up to move you.  Not only it is important to have experienced and professional movers, it is essential to have clean trucks outfitted with pads and dollies.

Most local moves are charged by the hour and having your home prepared when the movers show up is rule number one.  Our men do this on a regular basis so they know how to disassemble and assemble beds and other furniture.  Moving a refrigerator is easy when you have the right dollies for the job.

A local move usually means loading and unloading in one day.  It is not uncommon for our men to help you load and unload your car with fragile unpacked items that you want to keep safe.  This can be pictures, lamps and any last minute item that was not packed in a box.

Don’t forget about your attic.  By bringing these items down and repacking old boxes you can save time and money on moving day.

We are a full service company that specialize in the local move.  It doesn’t matter if it is a one bedroom apartment or a 10,000 square foot home.  We can move it all.

Without hourly minimums you can afford to hire T-N-T Movers for your local move.

Long Distance Moves

What to Expect on a Long Distance Move

The cost of long distance moves are based on the weight of your shipment, the miles traveling and the moving services you request.

A local move estimate is easy, but a long distance estimate is more involved.

Moving from one state to different state is regulated by the Federal Department of Transportation, Surface Transportation Board.

Long distant charges can include:

  • The cost of the the long distant move.
  • Carton cost, labor to pack, and unpack.
  • Setup charges – If large items are boxed and moved.  the estimate will  include unpacking those boxes,  e.g. setting up your beds.
  • An origin and destination service charge determined by the weight of the items moved.
  • Third party charges – crating of fine items, taking apart and reassembling items when necessary, appliance setup.
  • Moving Insurance to protect you against damaged or  lost goods.
  • Fuel surcharge.
  • Insurance related surcharges because of the high costs of trucking insurance.

Long  distance moving estimates should have the cost for each type of service you request clearly shown on your estimate.
